Today is a day of mourning in Assemini for the last farewell to Michele Murenu , the young forester who died in a road accident along the provincial road 80, in southern Sardinia , while he was reaching the area of a fire with a colleague.

The funeral will be held at 4:30 pm in the church of the Beata Vergine del Carmine . The mayor, Mario Puddu, has proclaimed a day of mourning .

Yesterday the entire local community gathered around the family : Michele was a very well-known boy and much appreciated for his commitment to the Forestry Corps and to sport , where he had long cultivated a passion for athletics.

Condolences for the passing of the 24-year-old were also expressed by the President of the Region Alessandra Todde : «The tragic news has shocked me enormously. There are no words, only so much pain and closeness to Michele's family, friends and colleagues. The Region of Sardinia gathers around the family and the entire Forestry Corps. My deepest condolences». The President also expressed «best wishes for a speedy recovery» to Murenu's colleague who was injured in the same accident.

As for the investigation into the accident, in the next few days the young woman at the wheel could be registered as a suspect on charges of road homicide : an act also required as a guarantee for the driver, to allow all the legal checks to be carried out.
