Established in 2000, the Aurora Project is the anti-violence service provided by the PLUS (social services) of Sassari, Porto Torres, Sorso, and Stintino. It is part of the Social Rights, Inclusion, and Equal Opportunities Department of the Municipality of Sassari. Since 2008, the service has been managed by the non-profit social cooperative "Porta Aperta."

Since its inception, the Progetto Aurora shelter has received 3,647 reports, while in 2025, 178 reports were received and 121 women were taken care of. Individual projects to escape violence have been activated for all of them. Over 85% of women who seek help are experiencing or have experienced violence from their husbands, partners, or boyfriends.

The CAV, based in Sassari, has a reception house with a secret address which hosts women and minor children.

Since 2022, the Emergency Reception Service has been operating 24 hours a day through specific agreements with the Third Sector and the Social Emergency Service (already operating in the PLUS of Sassari, Porto Torres, Sorso and Stintino and also managed by the Porta Aperta cooperative) and guarantees a prompt response to emergency situations involving women victims of violence and minor children/daughters, who in turn are victims of witnessed violence.

Several initiatives are underway to inform and raise awareness about the culture of nonviolence. These include Silvia Pazzola's exhibition "Storie Sottovoce," organized by the non-profit social cooperative "Porta Aperta" in collaboration with the Municipality of Sassari. The exhibition will be open until Saturday in the Sala Duce of the Palazzo Ducale.
