Over 100,000 migrants have landed in Italy since the beginning of the year: 101,386, to be exact, according to the statistics dashboard of the Ministry of the Interior updated as of today, 16 August. In the same period of 2022 the flow had stopped at 48,940. Even lower than the figure for the previous year, from January 1st to August 15th: at that time 34,556 foreigners had landed after a journey from North Africa.

The numbers are back to those of the period of maximum emergency and the current one could prove to be among the most difficult years for managing the phenomenon: the first reception centers of the landing regions (Sicily, above all) are saturated. Guests are diverted to other regions.

Even Sardinia does its part. Out of a total of 132,796 migrants present on the national territory, 2,098 are distributed among the structures on the island. They are divided as follows: 1,838 are guests of reception centers that are part of the Viminale network, the remaining 260 gravitate around Sai, the solidarity apparatus headed by local authorities.

Compared to last year (compared to August 15), the presences in Sardinia have also doubled: the migrants hosted twelve months ago were 1,009 in all. And among them were also many Ukrainians who had fled the war that broke out the previous February.

According to the agreements, up to 3 percent of the migratory presence in Italy should arrive on this side of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The threshold has not yet been reached and the Prefectures are organizing themselves: that of Cagliari has issued a tender for the search for structures ready to welcome 100 unaccompanied foreign minors. On the plate, available to those who participate there are 60 euros for each managed guest.
