Too many doubts about hydrogen trains. The Alghero Democratic Party also says no to the 140 million euros that Arst is thinking of investing in the rail connection with Alghero airport. "I hope I can avoid yet another useless, wrong, expensive project, in a bureaucratic-administrative framework that suggests that, upon expiry in June 2026, the financing money will have to be returned," says Enrico Daga, city secretary of the Dems. «In fact, the hydrogen trains already purchased at the cost of 5 times that of a hybrid, it is not certain that they can be approved by that date, given that they are essentially prototypes. Trenitalia, at the moment, does not consider them strategic in the medium term", warns Daga.

But that's not the only critical issue. «The electrolyser for the production of hydrogen – he explains – is an element with a strong environmental impact because it compromises areas with a strong agricultural vocation, for which the actual sizing for its use has not yet been clarified». There is also concern about the storage and transport of hydrogen, a "highly dangerous material". Finally, Daga raises doubts about the usefulness of the work. «Are we certain that the people of Alghero will go by their own means to the Mamuntanas station to divert towards the airport? Is there a study on this decisive aspect? Will those coming or going to Alghero have to go by train to Mamuntanas with their luggage? Whoever goes to Fertilia, Porto Conte, Stintino, or other destinations, are we certain that they will take the train? We are in the presence of a choice outside of any serious planning. A colossal mockery. The resources should be invested in the modernization of the Alghero Sassari Sorso railway, which runs a true metropolitan surface train with a single ticket (Sirio), with adequate frequencies, safety, speed and comfort. Let's stop this almost useless wicked work, let's not miss the train towards the future, or rather the Tram Train", concludes Enrico Daga.
