The historic stakes are at great risk. The Sardinian horse racing world fears the effects of the recent ministerial decree that prohibits English thoroughbred horse racing in municipal racetracks.
Uncertainty weighs on highly anticipated events such as the Palio dei Comuni in Fonni, the Palio dell'Assunta in Orgosolo, the races in Guasila, San Giovanni Suergiu, Bono, Pozzomaggiore. And even the Ardia in Sedilo, as emerges from the parliamentary question presented by FI deputy Pietro Pittalis.
The new regulation dictates the safety, health and well-being requirements for athletes, horses and the public in events that take place outside of authorized facilities or courses. According to the decree of January 8 of the Ministry of Sport and Youth, adopted on the proposal of the Minister of Health and in agreement with the Minister of Agriculture, in all regions the necessary adjustments will have to be made for the approval of gallop tracks.
In the meantime, the races will be blocked. A disaster for Sardinian horse racing because there would not be enough time to intervene given the imminence of the races which would therefore be compromised.
