Horror fair in the Cagliari area, where five dogs , eleven rabbits and four goats were seized. The specimens, reduced to starvation , were locked in narrow cages and tied to heavy iron chains . This is the outcome of the operation by the zookeepers of the International Organization for Animal Protection (Oipa), who also found a Cane Corso dead from starvation attached to a very short chain in the same land. The owner was reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Cagliari for mistreatment and abandonment of animals.

The rescued dogs, four puppies and a female, are now in a shelter managed by the Bau Club association awaiting a new life and foster care. The goats and rabbits were instead taken to a sanctuary . Unfortunately for three of the four puppies there was no happy ending : they died shortly after. Nothing to be done for the Cane Corso either: «I called him Otto, he didn't even have a name, and no one in the family spared him a glance while we were there. He had been dead for a few hours", says Monica Pisu, coordinator of the Oipa zoophile guards of Cagliari and its province . «I would also like him to be remembered among the many animalicides and cases of mistreatment. This poor soul was slowly consumed until his death: not a kennel, not a shelter, left without food to exhaust himself and then die in everyone's indifference. I'll never forget it".

The action of the Oipa guards in Cagliari follows the huge seizure last August, when 20 dogs were rescued from a house where they lived among the corpses of several decomposing animals.
