This morning, at the hospital in Sassari , Monsignor Lauro Nurra passed away . He was 95 years old and was born in Giave , where he currently lived. He was one of the best known prelates of Sardinia.

Ordained a priest in 1951, he had various priestly experiences, including in Germany, but became famous for having played the prestigious role of advocate for the Sacra Rota.

A highly cultured and well-liked man, Monsignor Lauro Nurra had obtained three degrees : Canon Law, Theology and Sciences. In 1994 he was awarded the honor of Cavaliere al Merito of the Italian Republic.

For over 10 years he had returned to his native country, Giave , which he loved deeply. A sentiment widely reciprocated by fellow citizens.

The news of his death aroused deep emotion in the small town of Meilogu and beyond, including the Sardinian ecclesiastical environment. Furthermore, messages of condolence to family members are arriving from all over Italy.
