The judge of the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Sassari confirmed the life sentence, as decided in the first instance, for Fulvio Baule , the 43-year-old who on 22 February 2022 killed his in-laws, Basilio Saladdino and Liliana Mancusa, with an axe, and attempted to kill his ex-wife, Ilaria Saladdino, with the same weapon , leaving her at the point of death.
In today's hearing, which took place with the "participated council chamber" formula, with only the parties present, the judge rejected the request for the resumption of the psychiatric assessment for his client , presented by the defense attorney, Nicola Lucchi, in order to obtain recognition of the mitigating circumstances denied to Baule in the first instance, and thus see the sentence reduced. The verdict was communicated at 11.
In the first instance trial, a psychiatric assessment ordered by the Court of Assizes of the Court of Sassari, established that Baule was capable of understanding and willing at the time of the facts, and that he is still capable now . The judge sentenced Baule, with daytime isolation for 1 year , to perpetual interdiction from public office, to the forfeiture of parental responsibility, and also to the payment of provisional compensation to the families of the victims who had constituted themselves as civil parties with the lawyers Gian Mario Solinas (8 thousand euros) and Silvia Ferraris (4 thousand euros).
Ilaria Saladdino's wife was awarded compensation of 250 thousand euros; 300 thousand euros to each of the couple's two children ; 200 thousand and 180 thousand to Ilaria's sisters, Maria and Giusy; 60 thousand euros each to Basilio Saladdino's sisters, Maria and Silvestra, and to Liliana Mancusa's brother, Marcello.
