First he collected them, then he carefully closed them in some bags complete with a piece of paper indicating where he had taken them.
A tourist "collector" of sand and pebbles was reported by swimmers on Chia beach. The man was found in possession of eight full plastic packages, on which he also took the trouble to identify the origin: Chia su Giudeu, Dune di Is Arenas Biancas, Piscinnì, Pula, Cala Cipolla. The staff of the Pula forestry station confiscated all eight bags for a total of 13 kilos of sand and pebbles.
Another four kilos were seized on the beach of Campulongu, Villasimius: once again it was the swimmers who raised the alarm, seeing an American yachtsman pick it up . Staff from the Villasimius Naval Base intervened on site. In the same operation, the occupation of the dune field by a concessionaire who had installed umbrellas and deckchairs in an area prohibited for the protection of the sand dunes was also contested. This area is also a Marine Protected Area.
«The removal of sand from the beaches is prohibited by Regional Law no. 16 of 2017 - recalls the Forestry Corps - which provides for sanctions of up to 3000 euros for violators. The Forestry Corps is carrying out an information and awareness campaign aimed at visitors to the island through the dissemination of posters and information brochures at the seaside concessions, airports and ports of Sardinia to prevent this conduct which is harmful to the environment".
