"I threw the hammer I used to kill my wife Francesca and her cell phone into the water. Exactly from the Sa Scafa bridge in Cagliari." These are the words of Igor Sollai, a 43-year-old truck driver from Assemini, spoken last Wednesday to the public prosecutor Marco Cocco during the interrogation that took place in prison in the presence of defense lawyers Carlo Demurtas and Laura Pirarba. Sollai told investigators where to look for the murder weapon and the cell phone he used after the crime to buy time, answer messages from his wife's friends and colleagues, making them believe that Francesca had spontaneously left home while he had already killed her and hidden her in a bag abandoned in the countryside along the old Orientale Sarda, in the territory of San Priamo.
Igor Sollai's confession was made on November 21st. A turning point: for four months, from the day of his arrest, July 8th, the truck driver had always declared his innocence, despite the prosecutor acquiring increasingly clear elements in an investigation that began on May 31st, when Andrea Deidda went to the police to report the disappearance of his sister Francesca. The telephone operator at a call center in Cagliari had already disappeared since May 10th.
In the next few days, the carabinieri divers will dive into the waters of Sa Scafa in search of the murder weapon and Francesca's cell phone.
