Aggravated assault and illegal possession of a concealed weapon : these are the charges facing the two men involved in the violent fight that broke out Friday evening in the Sant'Elia neighborhood of Cagliari and escalated into a punitive raid. The two men, aged 50 and 28, are also involved in the incident.
The alarm was raised around 7:40 PM, when numerous reports to the emergency number 112 reported a violent argument between several people near a bar on Via Schiavazzi, with witnesses reporting "distinctly hearing gunshots."
Several police cars and the Flying Squad crews intervened on the scene, finding two people on the ground in front of the premises.
The two—rescued by 118 emergency personnel—had multiple injuries: one had been hit by a bullet in the left side and also had a lacerated wound to the head; the other, however, had stab wounds to the back. Rushed to Brotzu Hospital, both were admitted and treated, with prognosis of 30 and 21 days, respectively.
The investigation began immediately. Analysis of the premises' internal surveillance footage and testimonies gathered on-site allowed investigators to reconstruct the attack and identify three perpetrators: in addition to the 50-year-old and the 28-year-old, there was also a 17-year-old minor.
According to the Flying Squad's reconstruction, the attack took place outside the bar: one of the three fired a gunshot, hitting the victim in the leg, while the other two intervened armed with a katana and a knife, respectively, which they used in the attack.
The violent episode was apparently triggered by a previous argument that had occurred about half an hour earlier, during which the shooting victim physically attacked one of the arrested men . Following the shooting, the three attackers then fled the scene in a car.
When contacted by the officers, the three volunteered to report the crime, admitting their actions. The gun used was later recovered thanks to the cooperation of one of the suspects.
The two adult alleged perpetrators were subsequently arrested for aggravated assault and illegal possession of a concealed weapon and taken to Uta prison. The minor, however, given his age and admission of responsibility, was released to his parents.
