Goodbye to the province of Sassari: from April 1st, as stated in the decree signed today by the President of the Region Todde, "the Metropolitan City of Sassari and the province of Gallura North East Sardinia will be fully operational".

The decree acknowledges the agreements already signed by the two entities in recent weeks on the division of financial resources, personnel and shareholdings in the entities. The transfer of movable and immovable assets and personnel will in any case be arranged with subsequent decrees of the president.

Thus, exactly twenty years after the first provincial council, which was gathered in La Maddalena, the province of the North-East is reborn, which will maintain its previous structure, from the double capital (which however does not appear in the name) to the 26 municipalities that are part of it for a total of 159 thousand inhabitants. The province will continue for now to be governed by the extraordinary administrator Rino Piccinnu while waiting for the election of the Council.

For now, the forecast is for a second level election among the Municipalities, but the political forces support direct elections for all local authorities. The North West will instead be reunited in the Metropolitan City of Sassari with 66 municipalities and 314,570 inhabitants.
