Giovannino Pinna in critical condition, the doctor: "I live thanks to a wetsuit and life jacket"

Giovannino Pinna , the diver found alive last night in Platamona , more than 24 hours after the shipwreck with his boat, is in critical condition in hospital . The prognosis is confidential, at the moment the 35-year-old is hospitalized in emergency medicine at the Santissima Annunziata in Sassari.

This is why the investigators will only be able to hear him from next week : «Before Monday», clarifies the medical director of the Aou of Sassari Luigi Cugia, «we will not allow anyone to speak with the patient, his conditions are critical and the prognosis remains reserved for at least 48 hours.

It is the director of the department, Paolo Pinna Parpaglia, who explains the conditions of Giovannino Pinna: «Compared to yesterday there is substantial stability with some signs of improvement. He has a beginning of drowning with an important respiratory insufficiency and a picture of hypothermia which is now evolving . The first few hours are the most critical because complications of diving syndrome can develop».

At the moment the diver remains under monitoring: «He is undergoing treatment for hypothermia», continues Pinna Parpaglia, «and he is also sedated because the psychological conditions are particularly relevant. He has fragmented and confused memories. He reported that he was wearing a wetsuit and life jacket, and this allowed him to limit the hypothermia ».

Finally, the doctor reported the little information that Giovannino Pinna reported about his cousin Davide Calvia, who was with him during the fishing trip and remains missing: «He doesn't remember anything, he knows he hasn't been found yet. The psychological conditions related to the emotional state are critical. He has amnesia for almost everything that happened, also because when he was found he was practically in a hypothermic coma , so his memories are erased for now and he will probably recover them slowly. This morning», concluded the director of Emergency Medicine, «he just met his father for a few minutes».
