Giampiero "Zampa" Marras, historic Sardinian independence activist, has died. An exponent first of the Psd'Az and then of Sardigna Natzione, he was 88 years old.

Admitted to the civil hospital in Sassari, he had been ill for some time. Born in Ozieri, he considered himself from Orani. Among the many messages of condolence and farewell on social media, that of Bainzu Piliu, pillar of Sardinian independence : «This morning, early in the morning, Zampa left us, in the civil hospital of Sassari. I am saddened. Giampiero was the first to talk to me about independence in 1975, I was already of the same idea and naively thinking that this was also the party line, I then joined the PsdAz in September of the same year. Giampiero proposed my election to the political secretariat of the Simon Mossa section, and so it was. With Giampiero dies a sincere independence activist who will always remain in our memory, as well as Doddore Meloni, among the few fixed points for an ideal that we are committed to translating into reality".

«Est mortu Zampa, Giuanne Pretu Marras, ne damus tocamentu cun sad manna. A giant of sos rights of the Sardinian nation is missing. At a sighire una ammentu, comente meritot», the comment of Bustianu Cumpostu, leader of Sardigna Natzione .
