The trial for the assault on the Pinna dairy farm in Thiesi in February 2019 concluded today in court in Sassari.
At the time, dozens of shepherds had gathered in front of the factory to protest the price of milk, which was just 60 cents: it was the milk war.
The demonstration escalated into a series of incidents of damage to the building, including broken windows, tampering with appliances, and spilling milk on the floor. This behavior led to charges against over 20 people for domestic violence and criminal damage.
Some had chosen the path of probation, while four of them - Leonardo Pedde, Pietro Baragliu, Giuseppe Chessa, and Raimondo Giau - decided to go through with the trial, believing they had done nothing wrong.
Judge Antonio Spanu sentenced them to three months, commuted to a fine of €450. Lawyers Simona Pedde, Maria Assunta Argiolas, Giulio Fais, and Margherita Baragliu intend to read the sentence's reasons and, if necessary, appeal the decision.
But, as the lawyers already argued in court, there are several doubts about their clients' actual involvement in the case. The judge also ordered a symbolic compensation of one euro, as requested by the civil parties, Giommaria Pinna, Pierluigi, Paolo, and Andrea Pinna, all represented by attorney Ilaria Pinna.
The intent, they declared, was to ensure that investigations were carried out into what happened and not to impose a financial burden on the defendants, who were not asked for legal fees.
