Faced with the lack of response from the Region on the reopening of the maternity ward of the Nostra Signora della Mercede hospital in Lanusei, the “Hands off Ogliastra” committee writes once again to the Health Councillor, Armando Bartolazzi, denouncing the continuing institutional silence and the failure to make concrete commitments .
"After more than three years of closure of the department, despite the promises and declarations made by the councilor during his visits to Ogliastra in 2024, the territory is still without an essential service for the health of women and newborns - explains the committee -. After months, the words have not translated into concrete actions, leaving unchanged a situation that forces pregnant women to face considerable travel to receive adequate health care, with all the risks that this entails".
For the committee, the recent appointment of a head physician for the department, announced by ASL4 for February 17, is not enough: «A clear and immediate commitment is needed for the reopening».
And they add: «Healthcare cannot be considered a question of political expediency or mere bureaucratic evaluations - the letter continues - but a fundamental right of every citizen, regardless of where they live».
The committee is now awaiting a "formal and definitive" response from the councilor , in the hope "that an urgent and indispensable intervention for the entire Ogliastra area will not be postponed any longer."
