The danger level of forest fires remains high in Sardinia. The alarm emerges from data from the European Forest Fire Information System (Effis) - section of the Emergency Management Service (EMS) of the EU Copernicus programme.
Together with Sardinia, including the Cagliari area, the alert - despite having decreased compared to recent days - also remains in Puglia and Basilicata.
The EU weather service also underlines another emergency, that of the average global temperature of the last 12 months: from May 2023 to April 2024, it was the highest ever recorded, 0.73°C above the average of the thirty-year period 1991- 2020 and 1.61°C above the average of the pre-industrial era 1850-1900.
In particular, April 2024 was globally the warmest ever recorded, with an average surface air temperature of 15.03 degrees, 0.67°C above the April average of the thirty-year reference period 1991-2020 and 0.14°C above the previous record set in April 2016. This is the 11th consecutive month that has been the warmest on record. April 2024 was also 1.58°C warmer than the pre-industrial April average (1850-1900).
