Food Collection: 175 markets involved in Sardinia

On Saturday 18 November, the twenty-seventh edition of the Food Collection will be held, to give effective help to those in difficulty.

In Sardinia, 175 markets are involved , with 1,800 volunteers who will be recognizable by their orange bib: they will be invited to purchase long-life products such as oil, canned legumes, tomato pulp or puree, canned tuna or meat, baby food, pasta and rice.

The initiative is organized by the Food Bank which, since its first establishment in 1989 at a national level and in 1994 in Sardinia, has been responsible for operating by giving concrete help to all people and families in need, as well as fighting waste, with the partner organizations guarantee the actual condition of need of those who receive what is collected.

«Last year around 100 tons of food were collected on the island, in 120 markets, thanks to the collaboration of over a thousand volunteers», said the regional president Alberto Tamponi , during the presentation of the initiative which was held this morning at the Sardinian Press Association in Cagliari, with membership numbers already growing significantly compared to the 2022 edition .

Throughout Italy there will be 11,000 supermarkets involved , with over 130,000 volunteers, with the list of markets participating in the initiative available on the bancaalimentare.it website.
