This time the fire was started along the provincial road 18 between Cala Pira and Cala Sinzias , one of the most evocative corners of the Sarrabus : at least in four different points , with the flames that developed in an instant around 1 pm , however finding on the spot a 'real task force that greatly limited the damage .

Above all, some houses were at risk : the alarm was immediately given by motorists and lookouts operating in the area and in an instant an authentic fire-fighting apparatus was created with the flames which in the end managed to attack no more than three hectares of Mediterranean scrub without doing other damage and with the villas still far away.

On site mayor Eugenio Murgioni, foresters, two helicopters, firefighters who quickly circumscribed the danger with the arrival in a very short time of a Canadair which carried out the site reclamation work from above.

In short, the immediacy of the intervention is crucial.

The carabinieri of the Compagnia di San Vito were also on the spot: the investigations immediately started with an inspection along the road and among the ash that had just been created.

«This morning - writes the mayor Eugenio Murgioni in a note - we avoided a great danger for our Municipality due to the fire that broke out on the SP18 , near the entrance to reach the beach of Cala Pira. Thanks to the prompt intervention and the presence on site of the Forestry, the Fire Brigade, our technical office with the emergency team made up of our workers and voluntary associations, the numerous citizens present and two helicopters, we managed to avert the worse . I thank the Forest Station Commander Mauro Pisu of Castiadas for the way he conducted the fire extinguishing and safety measures in the area concerned, for the reclamation work and for the arrival of the Canadair. The presence of the Local Police and the Carabinieri who guaranteed the orderly and safe passage of the road system, even in the most difficult moment of fighting the flames, should also be praised. Considerable was the interlocution and the constant updating of the undersigned with the Regional Civil Protection and the Prefecture of Cagliari which, in addition to obtaining information throughout the emergency phase, contributed to the organization of the interventions and sent two helicopters and the Canadair to the spot " .

«I hope - concludes Murgioni - that the repetition of this cowardly act - after the fires that broke out yesterday throughout the island - helps to make the authorities and citizens understand the importance and the need to carry out checks and preventive interventions; first of all with the cleaning of the areas and the fire barriers».
