The boat in which Lillo Satta and Maurizio Rossi died was travelling at very high speed .
This is revealed by the Coast Guard's investigations into the "Garupa", the six-metre semi-cabin boat with a 150 horsepower engine , on which the two amateur fishermen who were victims of the tragic accident that occurred at dawn on Saturday 25 January in front of Isola Rossa were travelling.
The vessel, seized by the Tempio Prosecutor's Office, is kept at the Isola Rossa marina. It has a huge gash in the bow, but not in the hull, which excludes the hypothesis that it ended up on a shoal before capsizing . Further investigations on the on-board instruments are awaited to establish the dynamics, but the most likely hypothesis is that the vessel crashed directly, at very high speed, onto the rocks in front of the beach . Dynamics that also explains the results of the autopsies on the victims , who died instantly from the trauma suffered in the collision and not from drowning .
The reason for the alleged delays in rescue operations has also been revealed. Some people who had spotted the shape of the boat in the water from the coast had reported it to the Port Authority at 9.30 in the morning, but gave imprecise information, also raising the possibility that it was the carcass of a cetacean . For this reason, the Port Authority, which was also busy searching for a person missing at sea, did not send units to the scene. A unit was sent immediately when, around 12.40, two divers clearly indicated the overturned boat and the two bodies inside .
