A foreign tourist died this morning in the sea at Rena Matteu, the beach on the Aglientu coast, on the Gallura coast, near Santa Teresa.

The man, whose identity is still unknown, reportedly became ill after entering the water, despite the harsh conditions and the red flag prohibiting swimming due to the opposing winds and strong sea currents.

He and some friends decided to go swimming, but a few minutes later he felt ill. Help from other swimmers, who alerted the police, was unsuccessful.

Emergency medical services and the Santa Teresa maritime authority, coordinated by the Porto Torres Coast Guard, are on site. The operation is still ongoing.
