It all began five years ago in Sorso, with a 71-year-old man's comment about a woman's driving skills. When her 47-year-old partner approached the man who made the comment, the confrontation quickly escalated, and the younger man was attacked by the older man, according to the charges, with a hammer and a knife and threatened with the phrase "I'll kill you."
The 47-year-old, however, manages to dodge the blows and, perhaps, land a few slaps in self-defense. But the episode doesn't end there. The man returns to his grocery store and, according to the charges, receives a visit that same day from the 71-year-old's sons, one aged 41 and the other 40. They beat the 47-year-old with kicks, punches, and headbutts to the face, hand, and ear, knocking him to the ground. Even on the ground, the man continues to be attacked, and bottles of olive oil and tomato puree from the shelves are also thrown at him.
There is no shortage of threats here either, such as “Don’t you dare slap my father again or I’ll kill you.”
In addition to the alleged crime of assault and threats, there is also the charge of criminal damage, as the cash register and the aforementioned bottles, along with their contents scattered around the premises, were involved. Furthermore, the two are charged with the aggravating circumstance that the incident occurred in the presence of a minor. The injured party was given a 20-day sentence following the confrontation and has decided to file a complaint. Today, the hearing was held in Sassari court before Judge Anna Pintore, where prosecutor Alessia Sanna deemed the three men's responsibility proven, requesting a one-year sentence for the eldest and a two-year sentence for his children.
The civil parties' lawyer, Bachisio Basoli, concluded in accordance with the prosecutor's arguments, requesting €10,000 in damages. The three were represented by Loredana Martinez. The judge sentenced the 71-year-old to four months and 15 days, plus €1,500 in damages. The children were sentenced to one year each and a fine of €2,260.
