Three hundred volunteers and nine base camps activated on the island for a total of 87 interventions to put out forest fires from 29 June to 31 July.

These are the numbers in Sardinia of the twinning project between the Regions promoted by the national civil protection department to strengthen the operational structures intended for surveillance and active fire fighting activities.

The 300 volunteers working on the island come from Lombardy, Emilia Romagna and Friuli Venezia Giulia and from the National Alpine Association : they will remain until 25 August and will take turns to support local voluntary organisations, the forestry and environmental surveillance corps, Forestas and the barracellari companies in firefighting activities.

The point about the project that has cut half the route was made today in a meeting in Cagliari with the regional councilor for the Environment Rosanna Laconi, the general directors of the Civil Protection of Sardinia, Mauro Merella, and of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Amedeo Aristei, and the president of the Sardinian civil protection volunteering Emilio Garau.

The nine base camps were activated in Monastir, Villacidro, Sinnai (two camps), Assemini, Isili, Bonorva, Santa Teresa di Gallura and Macomer : in total up to 31 July there were 87 firefighting interventions in which the volunteers participated , with over 200 patrol activities .

In the previous edition of the project, the activities had been concentrated on the area of the former Province of Cagliari. This year, strengthened by the positive experience of 2023, it was decided to extend this support to the entire Region which is already bringing important results.
