The Region gives the go-ahead to the Regional Plan for forecasting, prevention and active fight against forest fires, confirming, for those who evade their obligations or violate the provisions, the single and "severe" sanction which, from a minimum of 5,000, can up to 50,000 euros.

The Plan, reads a note from Villa Devoto, "identifies the prescriptions aimed at countering the actions that can determine the triggering of fires and at regulating the use of fire".

«The regional organization - explains the regional councilor for the defense of the environment Marco Porcu -, thanks to the competence, commitment and dedication of women and men of the Civil Protection, the Forestry Corps, the Forestas agency, the Fire Brigade fire, the barracellari companies and the world of civil protection volunteering, is mobilized with the important objective of preserving the environment and defending the forest heritage from fires, considered an irreplaceable asset for the quality of life. Also guaranteeing the safety of the Sardinians and the territory ».

«Their approval – adds Porcu – allows for the immediate application and launch of an adequate and widespread information and awareness campaign aimed at the population and the subjects concerned. Fire prevention activities and the development of environmental awareness, also through the dissemination of the prescriptions to local authorities, schools, trade associations, tourist accommodation facilities, ports, airports, are two fundamental keys to firefighting. Furthermore, the Regional Civil Protection and the Forestry Corps will shortly organize at least four territorial meetings, open to mayors and municipal technicians, to illustrate the contents of the regional provisions ».
"Like last year - underlines the councilor - a single severe penalty (from 5,000 to 50,000 euros) was confirmed for transgressions of the prohibitions relating to the obligations deriving from the fulfillments envisaged by the prescriptions, the non-compliance of which can determine, even potentially, the triggering of fire , and the issue, starting from 15 May, of the danger forecast bulletin, which guarantees the unequivocal definition of an alert level on a daily basis when a specific danger level is reached within the 25 "zones ” into which the regional territory was divided . The control of preventive measures, prohibitions and activities to be authorized is always entrusted to the Forestry Corps, while for Forestas, without prejudice to the priority prevention activity in the administered perimeters, it has been decided that it contributes to the prevention activities in the regional state-owned territory and Municipalities, according to a project aimed at reducing the risk of fires».
«To the Municipalities, equipped with the "Municipal plan of civil protection for the risk of interface fires" and in which a voluntary organization duly registered in the regional list has its headquarters, is guaranteed the possibility of using men and means of the organization for prevention activities. The same is true – concludes the commissioner – for the Barracella companies. Finally, in the next few days, the usual agreement will be stipulated with the National Fire Brigade which defines the joint operating procedures, the coordination in the activities of extinguishing forest and rural fires and the strengthening of the institutional headquarters of the Corps".
