Another fire on the border between the municipalities of Guamaggiore and Guasila, with the flames also approaching the Nuraghe Barru , among the largest in Sardinia.
The fire devoured hectares of forested area around the nuraghe, damaged a water lifting pump and incinerated several olive trees, then spread across tens of hectares of surrounding land .
Two helicopters intervened on site and, together with the various teams operating on the ground, managed to contain and put out the fire after several hours.
"Serious environmental damage," says Guamaggiore Mayor Nello Cappai , "concerned" by these incidents. "Last year," he recalls, "another fire had attacked the archaeological area, damaging the Service Center. The Municipality has been committed for years to the restoration of this large archaeological site, one of the most extraordinary in all of Sardinia. In this context, the Service Center was also built, complete with a conference room, a refreshment area, and other necessary facilities to make the Barru nuraghe a landmark in Sardinia and beyond, from an archaeological and tourism perspective."
