The GNV Allegra ship was delayed by three and a half hours in departing from Porto Torres port, leaving its docks at approximately 10:30 PM instead of the scheduled 7:00 PM.
On the ferry , passengers are sheltered after a nearly 24-hour odyssey aboard the Azzurra, the Grandi Navi Veloci ship that broke out in the engine room at 8:30 PM on Friday, 40 miles from Porto Torres, off the coast of southern Corsica, during a crossing to Genoa.
" Another long wait with no one to give us any information ," laments a passenger. "No one brought us water despite the terrible heat. There were too many boats to load, and some were left stranded ."
Exhausted and tired, the passengers, just disembarked after the nightmare they had experienced due to the fire that had disabled two of the four engines, had to wait before seeing the departure of the second GNV ship from the western port.
On Saturday afternoon, upon arrival at the ASI industrial dock in Porto Torres, a deployment of law enforcement forces, including Carabinieri, firefighters, State Police, and the Coast Guard of the Port Authority , was deployed. The Areus, in conjunction with the Prefecture of Sassari, set up an advanced medical station with ambulances and medical teams ready to provide first aid to the passengers and crew of the GNV vessel. The station assessed all those who disembarked the vessel using the triage star system designed for major emergencies.
The most vulnerable people and those who, due to the event, have experienced panic attacks or breathing problems are being monitored.
Also on the dock were the mayor of Porto Torres, Massimo Mulas, and the commander of the Port Authority, Mirko Orrù, who has launched an administrative investigation to determine the causes and possible responsibilities.
