"We mayors have to manage situations of danger and degradation that arise from that uncontrolled immigration that has brought nothing good to our cities, if not degradation and episodes of violence like this". Words from the mayor of Cagliari, Paolo Truzzu, after the fire that destroyed a building occupied by migrants in via Riva di Ponente, in front of the port.

The mayor knew that situation well: «The tensions in the dormitory had been known for some time and were at the center of my talks with the prefects who followed one another in the city», Truzzu assures, « I expressed concern about what was happening inside and outside the area".

A non-municipal but regional property, the mayor is keen to underline, who asks "that the building be quickly secured and sealed so that it can no longer be occupied. Compared to such complex issues, we administrators are helpless and suffer all the negative consequences of such acts".
