A "pact" to make the investigations and prosecution of those responsible for the fires that devastate thousands of hectares of Sardinian territory even more effective (almost 20,000 burned in 2022 alone).
It is the one held between the island judiciary, the Fire Brigade, the Forestry Corps, the regional civil protection and the forestry Carabinieri , during a summit convened in Cagliari, on the initiative of the Attorney General Luigi Patronaggio .
The face-to-face meeting was held in the premises of the Prosecutor's Office of the capital, in addition to Patronaggio, all the district prosecutors, with the regional commander of the fire brigade, Natalia Restuccia , the commander of the regional Forestry Corps Fabio Migliorati , the director general of the Civil Protection Antonio Belloi and the commander of the Carabinieri Forestry Michele Ravaioli .
"The purpose of the meeting - explains a note - was to create virtuous synergies between the institutions that deal with the prevention and extinguishing of forest fires and the District Attorneys' Office, responsible for identifying those responsible for the fires so that prosecution and are subjected to the penalties provided for by law ".
An "increasingly relevant" phenomenon, due to which 19,228 hectares of forest area went up in smoke last year.
In detail, in 2022 there were 339 fires, which led to the denunciation of 82 people, "of which only 4 - it is specified - were arrested". Data that place Sardinia in third place in Italy for the number of fires.
For this reason, continues the Prosecutor of Cagliari, "during the meeting, close to the 2023 anti-fire season, operational strategies and protocols were developed and new investigation techniques were also agreed with recourse to the most sophisticated and modern technologies ".
«Finally, on the occasion, the draft agreement was illustrated, still in the stipulation phase, between the president of the Region Cristian Solinas and the attorney general Patronaggio, with which as many as 21 officers and agents will be seconded to the District Attorneys' Office Foresters with tasks ranging from environmental protection to the repression of illegal building».
