Three Canadairs will be located at the Olbia airport – like last year – to face the summer season and the risk of fires, and to these will be added the 14 helicopters of the Regional Forestry Corps.

"Considering the availability of five "Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane" vehicles, better known as "Elitanker", I asked to evaluate the location of a unit in Sardinia - said the regional councilor for environmental defense, Marco Porcu, who yesterday attended the meeting, convened by the Minister of Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci, to discuss the objectives and programs of the 2023 National Fire Fighting Plan - This choice would allow the availability of all types of aircraft useful for dealing with the various risk scenarios . Obviously, in addition to the air means, the by now tested regional fire-fighting machine will be able to count on the human resources and ground means of the Forestry Corps, the Civil Protection, Forestas, the barrier companies and voluntary organizations ».

The 2023 update of the regional plan for forecasting, prevention and active fight against forest fires has not yet been issued, the last one concerns the years 2020-2022.

In the meantime, the Region of Sardinia has allocated 5 million for the upgrading of the fleet of fire-fighting vehicles and the purchase of pick-ups equipped with multi-purpose Aib equipment, to be assigned to the regional and local operating structures to integrate and renew the existing fire-fighting fleet. .

"The organization of the firefighting campaign in Sardinia, which began a few months ago, will continue in the next few days with the adoption of the regional council resolution concerning the requirements - added the commissioner - Furthermore, shortly, this year too we will sign the usual agreement with the National Fire Brigade".
