Sardinia devoured by flames: hell of fire in the Nuoro and Sassari areas

Hell of a day in Sardinia, with Superpuma and Candair helicopters in flight to put out the large fires that are devastating woods and countryside, especially in the north and center of the island .

At the moment the warmest front is the one between Orani and Orotelli , where a helicopter, a Superpuma and two Canadair took off. The flames, as can be seen from the images, have unfortunately left a very long expanse of ash and are heading towards the town of Orotelli . Homes and businesses threatened, mayors very worried.

The situation has been critical since yesterday in the Sassari area. Forestry Corps, Fire Brigade and various Civil Protection teams intervened from the early hours of the morning to put out the flames in the territories of Burgos, Bonorva and Bottidda .

A Forestry helicopter, which took off from the Anela base, intervened to support the teams on the ground in the extinguishing and reclamation operations of a fire that broke out yesterday in the woods around Burgos , in Goceano, and which still had several active outbreaks this morning.

Another large fire broke out this morning in the Bottidda area, still in the Goceano wooded area . The ground teams were on site assisted by a Canadair that took off from Olbia and two Superpumas that left from Fenosu and Alà dei Sardi.

A third fire devoured hectares of land in the Bonorva area , with a helicopter coming from the Anela base, a Superpuma taking off from Fenosu and two Canadairs departing from the Olbia base. " I would like to say several things about the fire that has been devastating the outskirts of the town since yesterday, and about the firefighting organization in general, but today for Bonorva is a day of mourning and pain ," mayor Massimo D' wrote on Facebook Augustine .

At the moment it is impossible to draw a balance sheet of the hectares of land incinerated by the flames.

Alarm also in the south, in Portoscuso and Isili . In Isili in particular , the building that houses the high schools was threatened , only the rapid intervention of the fire prevention team prevented the worst. On social media, Mayor Luca Pilia thanked "all the people who worked hard to avoid the disaster".

In total, 20 fires broke out on the island today : seven which required the intervention of helicopters, in addition to the six already mentioned there is one, already put out, in the countryside of Nuoro.
