The control of the vast territory of Sulcis is entrusted to the police stations of Carbonia and Iglesias, which will have to alternate in managing shifts for complete coverage over 24 hours, "given the lack of personnel that does not allow the two offices to operate autonomously in their own territory. The Sap of Cagliari is openly against it".

The protest comes from the provincial secretary of the autonomous police union, Luca Agati, who expressed his disappointment in a note.

For years the two police stations "have been robbed of police officers, both retired and transferred to Cagliari but never replaced. The shortage reached 50%".

The fault, according to Agati, «is solely of the administration, which has always been more interested in managing the safety of the city than that of the province».

For the unionist «today we are witnessing a great defeat for the administration that pretends to want to solve a problem that it itself created. From now on, colleagues of the Flying Squad will be forced to cover a vast territory with all the risks associated with the interventions to be managed, creating inconvenience also for citizens who will have to wait for the arrival of a Flying Squad perhaps 30 km away».

The control of the territory should be ensured in well-defined areas "so as to give the police the possibility to intervene quickly in case of need. By merging the two police stations we will be able to ensure a machine on the territory that will have to cover such a large area as to eliminate the preventive nature typical of the Flying Squad, so called precisely because of the speed of intervention".

Police Stations, Agati concludes, "do not need consolidation strategies, but sufficient staff to guarantee the safety of citizens by enabling colleagues to operate safely."
