More than three months after the shipwreck of the Golfarancino fishing vessel Alemax II off the coast of Cape Figari , the body of the Senegalese sailor Mande' Diome, missing after the collision of the fishing vessel with the Sharden ferry, has been identified . He was 41 years old.
The sailor's body was identified by the personnel of the Navy ship Anteo and by a team from the Comsubin Underwater Operations Group.
The operations, coordinated by the Olbia Coast Guard, were conducted despite the prohibitive weather and sea conditions. From the Anteo ship, Navy divers identified the body of the missing man using an underwater robot (Rov – Remotely Operated Vehicle). The body is found at a depth of approximately 88 meters near the wreck of the fishing boat. The recovery of the body will take place no earlier than Friday 24 November.
In the August clash, the commander of the fishing vessel Mario Langui, 28 years old from Golfo Aranci, was thrown into the water but emerged unharmed from the collision, managed to cling to a floating piece of his vessel and detonated a signal rocket which immediately allowed the identification: he was saved by a sailing boat.
Traces of the Senegalese sailor were lost. Until today.
