Several dozen residents of the Maddalena Spiaggia condominium on the Capoterra coast have been evacuated, their homes threatened by the storm surge: 16 will be staying in a B&B, five in a guesthouse, and the rest with relatives. Other homes have been evacuated in the Cagliari area due to the rapid rise in water levels. In Sinnai, in particular, Mayor Barbara Pusceddu, along with local police, civil defense associations, and the Carabinieri, is moving several families from the Tasonis hamlet to leave their homes.
"We have an area with several waterways that have swollen and are causing concern," he explains. "We've activated the Emergency Call Center (COC) and have also prepared shelters for those who find themselves forced to leave their homes and have nowhere to sleep. We're monitoring the entire area right now."
Meanwhile, on the western front, the Southern Sardinia Land Reclamation Consortium and the regional operations center are monitoring the situation at the Poggio dei Pini dam on the San Girolamo stream, which is at critical level.
The risk is that it could overflow, dragging debris and mud downstream - towards areas already flooded with sea water.
Meanwhile, the discharge flow has reached 363 cubic meters per second on the Flumineddu, between the municipalities of Seui and Ulassai in Ogliastra, and 340 at the Maccheronis dam, in Torpè in the Nuoro area.
