Nurses attacked by patients and five out of 12 employees injured after the clashes. This is the situation faced by the child neuropsychiatry department of the Microcitemico, in Cagliari. And the incidents seem to be on the increase. This was reported by the provincial secretary of Fials , Giampaolo Cugliara, in a statement which «intends to bring to the attention of the Councilor for Health the difficult situation in the operational unit due to the absence of nursing and OSS staff ». The concerns grow if one considers then to the other situations to be addressed at the staff management level, including extra unexpected events, leave and holidays. If "a further absence is added to such a reduced workforce - adds the union - it is clear that the number of nurses becomes absolutely insufficient".

Adding further concern to the skeleton staff and out-of-control patients. In fact, health workers work "in absolute solitude, without the doctor on call during the night and on holidays because they do not operate in the presence but in the availability and absence of a security guard".

Hence the immediate request to the city's local health authority: a definitive solution that reduces "buffer interventions" to make up for shortcomings in the department, also including the inclusion of newly recruited nurses in the ward.
