"Giovanni Zedda, known to all as Nanni , died at the age of 89, leaving emptiness and pain among family and friends, but also an enormous cultural heritage of which the whole island must be proud". The announcement was made by Michele Casciu, president of the PPC Order of Architects of Cagliari and its province , adding: "If example and dedication had a face it would certainly be Nanni's".

The funeral will be held on Wednesday 11 January at 3.30 pm in the Parish of San Sebastiano in Cagliari.

«In recent years – explains Casciu – I have had the opportunity to consult him and listen to his advice. An active and competent presence, which did not disdain to get involved as a "student" when we organized the course on Color Plans. A humility that certainly didn't cloud his resolve when the need arose. We can be proud to have known him and he will all be missed."

The last recognition, in September 2020, was the Lifetime Achievement Award for his 50 years of membership in his beloved Order, of which he was also president for two terms between the 1990s and 2000s as well as president of the Disciplinary Council: «His human and professional skills have contributed to the enhancement of the figure of the architect in our society at a national and international level», says Teresa De Montis , current President of the Federation of APPC Orders of Sardinia, then at the head of the Cagliari Order: « All my gratitude goes to him for having made available to me and to the Order, with enormous generosity and great professionalism, all the competence of a professional of the highest level».

The electrocution for the profession of architect, for Zedda comes when, between '46 and '48, he visits an exhibition set up in Cagliari, dedicated to the buildings of the great Frank Lloyd Wright. Those examples of organic architecture instill in him the passion and desire that will lead him to graduate from the La Sapienza University of Rome. In that period spent between the capital and Cagliari he joined the "Initiative Group", an avant-garde artistic movement born from the rubble of "Studio '58", which promoted the democratic and autonomous commitment of culture in Sardinia. Here he met and formed a deep friendship with Primo Pantoli and Gaetano Brundu with whom he worked in a decisive way for the birth of contemporary painting on the island. Among Zedda's acquaintances is also the one with Peppino Fiori who in 1970 witnessed his wedding with his lifelong companion Giovanna Ravasio. «Besides her, today he leaves his children Maria Paola and Roberto with his wife Rossella and little Beatrice to whom all his colleagues condolences», concludes Casciu.
