Cagliari mourns the loss of Giuseppe Andreozzi, lawyer, politician and leading figure in the battles for civil rights and social justice.
He died leaving a legacy of commitment, passion and struggle for the causes he always believed in . Father of Giulia, current Councilor for Public Education and Youth Policies of the Municipality of Cagliari, he was also president of the Fondazione del Teatro Lirico in 2018 and a representative of the Rossomori in city politics.
Born in Lanusei in 1952, Andreozzi arrived in Cagliari in 1960, where he studied at the classical high school before graduating in law in 1975.
His passion for politics blossomed already during his university years, when he distinguished himself in the student movement for education reform, the right to study and access to housing for non-residents . At the time, female students were not admitted to the Casa dello Studente, and Andreozzi fought to change this injustice.
He was also a member of the Collettivo Politico Giuridico of Cagliari, a group of professors, lawyers and researchers committed to the defense of rights and “counter-information” on justice and social issues.
But his action did not stop at the university classrooms: he participated in neighborhood committees and was among the protagonists of the battle to save the Villaggio Pescatori di Giorgino, threatened with demolition to make room for the Porto Canale. Thanks to the mobilization, the village was preserved and subsequently renovated.
After graduating, she continued to work on tenants' rights, fair rent and urban planning policies, offering legal assistance and contributing to the public debate on the transformations of the city.
He passed away at the age of 73 due to illness.
