Plastic waste management is once again raising concerns in the municipalities of Trexenta. The mayor of Mandas, Umberto Oppus, has raised the alarm by sending a formal letter to the regional Department of Environmental Protection and the regional technical authorities, highlighting a situation that risks directly impacting residents.

The problem concerns the facility responsible for the collection and management of plastic waste produced in the Mandas area and neighboring municipalities. The facility's yards are now nearing capacity due to a stalemate in material collections by the National Consortium for the Collection and Recycling of Plastic Packaging . According to the mayor, this situation is continuing without a definitive solution being found. Further complicating the situation is the availability, announced by the Region, of new, special spaces to accommodate excess plastic. However, the facility serving Trexenta is not currently among those authorized to access these facilities.

The risk is that, without the release of the accumulated materials, the plant may be forced to temporarily stop the delivery of plastic waste.

"We are requesting urgent intervention from the Region to ensure that the facility serving our area is also able to deliver a portion of its waste to newly opened regional facilities ," Mayor Oppus requested. The goal, he explained, is to temporarily free up storage capacity and prevent service disruptions.

If no response is forthcoming quickly, the Municipality has already stated its readiness to officially inform the public about the possible need to limit or modify plastic collection. The fear is that, without immediate action, the problem could quickly become a significant disruption to several towns in Trexenta.
