"I didn't stab Zdenka, whoever said it later said they were no longer so sure, I'm in prison as an innocent". These are the words of Francesco Baingio Douglas Fadda, accused of femicide before the Assize Court of Sassari.

Fadda made spontaneous statements in the courtroom, rejecting - and not for the first time - the accusations against him.

For the Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office, however, the 45-year-old is the killer of Zdenka Krejcikova, the 40-year-old of Czech origin, killed with a knife in a bar in Sorso on February 15, 2020.

"Even after having reported me for mistreatment, we continued to hang out - said Fadda - she came to see me at the hotel". And after the withdrawal of the complaint, the quarrels were continuous. On the day of his death, the two had argued.

"He sent me away, he called the carabinieri, on the phone the marshal told me not to come near - he reported - I asked to be able to take some clothes, we talked and we decided to take a walk in Marritza".

But after leaving the apartment in via Tiziano, "Zdenka entered the bar with a knife in her hand - it's her version - she slipped and got injured".

During the hearing, Fadda explained that he had loaded it into the car because someone wanted to call the carabinieri and surely the blame would have ended up on him. "By car we decided to go to the emergency medical service because there would have been a police station in the hospitals", is the reasoning. "The medical guard in Ossi was closed, we went to a friend's house, I laid it on the sofa but I didn't run away, I waited for the ambulance and the medical guard".

Among the witnesses cited by defense lawyer Lorenzo Galisai, one stated that "I have seen them argue often, once she pulled out a knife in the middle of an argument".

The trial was then updated on 11 January.
