It is not raining and Sardinia remains dry. "The Government must declare a state of national emergency": this was written by the President of the Region, Alessandra Todde, in a letter sent to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni:
"I have requested the declaration of a national state of emergency due to the serious water deficit situation affecting our territory," the governor announced.
In recent years, droughts have led to a significant reduction in water resources, with heavy repercussions on the drinking water and agricultural and livestock sectors. "The situation has further worsened due to the outflows recorded between October and December 2024, which have not allowed water supplies to be restored," Todde says.
The data are worrying: the latest bulletin updated to December 31, 2024 indicates that "in our reservoirs there are only 750 million cubic meters of water, equal to 41% of the authorized volume. Furthermore, some strategic water systems, such as those of Alto Cixerri, Alto Taloro, Posada and Ogliastra, have reached the emergency level - red code".
The regional emergency declaration adopted by the Council is not enough: "It is clear that extraordinary means and powers are needed to address this crisis more effectively and avert the risk of a further worsening."
