In Sardinia, eleven emergency rooms are at risk of closure with the expiration of their payroll contracts. The alarm has been raised by Cimo doctors, who have presented a proposal to avert disaster.

The contracts are set to expire on June 30th , with no possibility of renewal, and by then the already critical situation could worsen further. According to Cimo regional deputy secretary Emanuele Cabras, it is necessary to "invest in existing staff before it's too late."
