Abbanoa will manage the integrated water service until 2034. This decision was made by EGAS, which also approved the tariff update by a majority vote. The decisions were presented by President Fabio Albieri and General Manager Andrea Cappelli .

"This isn't just a simple extension," Albieri emphasizes, "but a decision that offers a new perspective to Sardinia's water service. We're promoting public water policy."

This shift will lead to new investments for 2026-2034: €1.846 billion, of which €826 billion will come from public funding. A 0.5% reduction in tariffs is expected starting in 2027. EGAS also intends to strengthen its monitoring of the operator. A review is scheduled for 2031.

Mayors Massimo Zedda (Cagliari), Pietro Cocco (Gonnesa), Antonello Idini (Padru), Maurizio Sirca (Sarule), and Massimo Mulas (Porto Torres) did not attend the meeting of the Egas institutional committee, which approved the extension of the water service contract to Abbanoa.
"Given the importance of the decision, I would have hoped for all committee members to be present. And for this, I express my regret ," commented Fabio Albieri, visibly annoyed by the absences, linked to unresolved political disputes.
