The Municipal Council of Sennori has declared a state of natural disaster throughout the municipality due to the ongoing drought in Northwestern Sardinia. It has therefore implemented all necessary measures to support production activities and the population affected by the water shortage, reporting the serious situation to the relevant authorities. The decision by the Council, led by Mayor Nicola Sassu, and supported by Michele Soggia, Councilor for Agriculture, Rural Development, and Civil Protection, was also made following numerous reports from local farmers and ranchers, who are complaining of serious operational and economic difficulties caused by the dryness of the land and the scarcity of water for livestock and crop irrigation. To address the emergency, the municipal administration, also following institutional meetings with the Sardinia Region and the Prefecture, has planned several actions and instructed municipal offices to initiate the procedures for obtaining the relevant funding and then implement the interventions. The planned actions include the reactivation of the well in Su Lotto, with all the related works for its commissioning and usability; the construction of a water purification plant to be connected to the Abbanoa network, with water supply ensured by local municipal wells, still managed by the sole operator, to be used even in the event of restrictions imposed by the managing body; the activation of the existing well at the Orto del Beneficio parish to make it available to residents and agricultural businesses; the construction of a plant to recover the spring water flowing from Funtana Fritta and a public collection point, always available to residents and agricultural businesses; the construction of a new well with a corresponding water collection point for users at the "Basilio Canu" sports field; Purchase of an 8,000-10,000-liter water tanker for water distribution in critical areas within the municipality. Meanwhile, while awaiting regional provisions for the possible granting of funding, the Municipality invites agricultural and livestock businesses that have suffered damage to report their situation by August 8, 2025, using the procedures established and indicated at the following link: notice.
