«A situation never seen before, bare land without a blade of grass, sowing not carried out, livestock watering with water transported and the spread of the blue tongue virus due to the high temperatures. This is the situation that agricultural and livestock companies are experiencing today in numerous areas of Sardinia due to an insistent drought, where the last rains were recorded nine months ago". This is what the president of the Centro Studi Agricoli (Csa), Tore Piana, claims in a note.

«A situation that is bringing hundreds of agricultural companies in Sardinia to their knees, falling in the territories of Baronia, Ogliastra, Sulcis, Alta Gallura and Ogliastra». But not only.

As the Agricultural Studies Centre, «we wanted to see for ourselves», continues Piana, «by going in person to Baronia in Galtelli, Siniscola, Irgoli Loculi where we verified a situation that we would never have imagined, barren land and completely devoid of grass, farmers and desperate farmers, disheartened with exhausted livestock, among other things in numerous cases affected by the blue tongue virus for sheep and the blocking of movement and difficulties in sales for beef cattle". «Concerned about this situation», concludes the president of the Agricultural Studies Center, «today we forwarded an urgent request to the regional Agriculture Department to activate the procedures for the recognition of the state of natural disaster of drought for those territories and at the same time foresee extraordinary urgent aid measures".
