The bar in Barbagia is the meeting point par excellence and when the presence of the faithful in the churches diminishes, there are those who bring the word of Jesus where the meeting places fill up.

So Don Antonio Maria Cossu , known to all as Don Totoni, 68 years old, parish priest of Bitti for seven years, has been going around the bars of the town for three years with his catechesis , proposing a busy calendar of conferences entitled "Meeting in bars, half a beer". evangelical" talking about Jesus".

This year's theme is "The message of Jesus: love": Don Antonio calls his fellow villagers together from 7.30pm to 8.30pm .

«My vision as a religious person has never been to work indoors in the sacristy or wait for people to come to mass - the parish priest explains to Ansa -. I like it a lot and it was my youthful dream, to go where the people are. I thank the bartenders of Bitti and all the people present who welcome me, for the hospitality and for the opportunity they give me to bring them the word of Jesus ."

Don Totoni has 44 years of priesthood behind him and before arriving in Bitti he worked in the seminary in Nuoro, was parish priest of Gavoi and Siniscola and for some years a missionary in Argentina.

For him " even half a beer can be evangelical ", but beware of drinking or distracting yourself during that hour of reflection, when Don Totoni reads some passages from the Gospel and introduces the topic of the evening before giving everyone the floor for discussion . The convivial moment arrives after the discussion, when in addition to the glass of beer, as per Barbagia tradition, excellent food is also allowed: bread, cheeses, sausages and ham, as a sign of friendship and gratitude for the parish priest.

The meetings began at the Sa sede club and at the Su Recreu bar, continued at the Italia 90 bar and will continue on 15, 16, 17 and 18 April. Then they will interrupt for the feast of San Giorgio and will start again to end on April 30th at the Caffè Italiano.
