Following yet another disruption yesterday , which caused significant inconvenience to the residents of Quartu, Abbanoa apologizes and announces its next steps to improve the efficiency of a water network that is leaking everywhere.

Yesterday, technicians secured the section of the pipeline on Via Manara affected by the breaks in recent days, completely replacing a section of approximately six metres .

"We apologize to the residents and the municipal administration for the inconvenience, but this was an unforeseen emergency situation and we made every effort to resolve it," the company explained in a statement. That section was "particularly exposed to potential damage due to soil washout after the recent rains," Abbanoa said.

Which then answers the question many Quartesi have asked, including the mayor. Why cut off water to the entire city? "The break involved a primary pipe with a diameter of 300 mm, which is part of the main supply ring for the entire city center, from which all the secondary pipes serving the users branch off. For this reason, it was inevitable to shut off water to the entire city center, especially since it is subject to extremely high pressure."

And while Mayor Graziano Milia is urging the complete replacement of the old pipes (250 meters in Via Cimabue and 250 meters in Via Manara), Abbanoa has announced that further checks are underway on the stability of the city's water network and that it will soon be divided into smaller, more homogeneous districts that are easier to manage and maintain.

The 100 km of pipeline will be divided into six districts : a northern district from the historic center to the border with Quartucciu, a western district from Viale Colombo to Molentargius, a southern district from the historic center to the former salt mines, an eastern district from the center towards the 554, a district for the Sant'Anastasia, Pitz'e Serra and Quartello area plans, and finally a district for the Sant'Anastasia hill and Margine Rosso.

The 27 water nodes where the new regulation and district division valves will be installed have already been identified. Ten additional measurement points will be added for constant network monitoring via a remote control system.

In short, Abbanoa concludes, Quartu will be "among the first municipalities to proceed with the engineering of the water system." The timing? "It will be agreed upon with the municipality because it will inevitably be necessary to carry out scheduled closures."
