First solo flight for two young pilots of the English Royal Air Force at the Decimomannu base.

The RAF itself announced it in a note, where we read: «The first two pilots of the Regia Aeronautica trained in Italy at the International Flight Training School of the Decimomannu air base have reached the finish line of the first solo flight on the T-346 Master's degree. The two pilots graduated from the Military Flying Training System's basic flight training course earlier this year and are now training at the Sardinian air base following the technical agreement signed with the Air Force at beginning of this year ."

There will be a total of 12 RAF pilots who will train over the next three years in Sardinia, while the first two pilots who have had their "baptism of flight" in recent days will complete the training course in May 2024.

The training at Decimomannu, add the leaders of the Air Force and the RAF, will be «crucial also in light of the preparation of the two air forces for sixth generation aircraft.

General Luca Goretti and the Chief Marshal of the English Air Force Sir Mike Wigston, explains the website The Aviationist, agree on the need to «look ahead on how to build a common international training to be ready when the new generation jets are delivered in 2035 ».

At the moment, in addition to the RAF, the air forces of Canada, Germany, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Singapore and Japan have already chosen the Decimomannu IFTS for the training of new pilots.
