Transport chaos and inconvenience on departures from the island. This is the story that emerges from the weekend just spent at the Elmas airport.

Specifically, on Saturday morning, the queues would have exceeded 40 minutes towards the boarding, seasoned with nervousness and discussions among the passengers. To tell it, Valentina Corrias, a commuter from Arzana heading to Cuneo with the 10.40 Ryanair flight.

«Despite having left Ogliastra in the early hours – explains Corrias – upon arrival at the airport I found a situation of total disorganisation, with little staff available and people abandoned in the queue towards the boarding. All with the risk of missing flights due to delays at check-in and during the control phase ».

And patience for the possibility of benefiting from the Fast Track priority lane, with a supplement of a few euros. Both Corrias and many other travelers flatly refused: «It's a matter of principle - continues the young woman - the inconvenience of territorial continuity and exorbitant prices aren't enough, now we also have to pay to get around the line? We are talking about the most important airport in Sardinia. Some situations are unacceptable."

And again: "If it hadn't been for the common sense of so many travelers, who left after us and gave us their place in line, we would have remained flat".

But the real reasons for the disorganization would be not only in the lack of personnel available but also in the checks: «I travel at least once a month, sometimes for work reasons, and upon arrival at the metal detectors, slowness reigns supreme. In Rome this does not happen. And the procedures are carried out more easily also through new technologies. It would be appropriate for us to adapt as well ».

Problems concerning the few parking spaces available then emerge in the story: «The justification for the high season holds up to page two. Finding a parking space has become a real challenge. I had to make use of a paid shuttle service, leaving my car far from the airport. Why not increase the areas available?».

Stories and tales of commuters from the island to the so-called Continent, where problems chase each other from season to season.
