New fatal accident at work in Sardinia, the second in less than 24 hours .

The victim is a 43-year-old worker, Gianuario Derudas , who died shortly after being crushed by a forklift inside the municipal city center in via Ariosto in Sassari.

According to a first reconstruction, the 43-year-old was busy moving material when the forklift, apparently due to a slope in the ground, overturned on one side.

Derudas tried to save himself by jumping out of the vehicle, but the forklift overturned right on his side, crushing him.

The worker was rescued by his colleagues but there was nothing for him to do.

In addition to the 118 medical personnel, firefighters, flying squad agents and local police also intervened.

Derudas was an employee of Ambiente Italia, the company that manages the urban sanitation service for the Municipality of Sassari.

The inspectors of the Spresal will now have to ascertain the dynamics of the accident.

THE REACTIONS - "Two other deaths at work have ravaged our Island - the words of the president of the Labor Commission of the Chamber, Romina Mura (Pd) - adding to a too long sequence of fallen and injured: dismay and grief is no longer enough , we ask that the measures announced by the Minister of Labor Orlando, which today began to be approved by the Council of Ministers, become operational as soon as possible ".
Uiltrasporti Sardegna asks for the immediate opening of a discussion table for safety in the workplace with all the institutions responsible for checks and safeguarding the staff.

"Like Uiltrasporti and Uil we have been fighting for years a battle against deaths at work with the zero death campaign - explains the general secretary of Uiltrasporti Sardinia William Zonca -. It is unacceptable that in 2021 people still continue to die like this. Between yesterday and today we had two deaths in less than 24 hours on the job. We are close to the family of the deceased worker and we believe that urgent measures are needed so that this cannot be repeated. We hope that the event will be clarified immediately and we are close to family members of the victim. But we ask the institutions for an emergency table on this tragedy which is now becoming daily ".

"When you lose your life at work there is necessarily something that did not work in the chain of rules and prescriptions that must be respected, because no one can die of fatality while working", writes in a note the regional secretary of the CGIL, Samuele Piddiu, underlining the need to draw up a real Pact for health and safety with the government and businesses, as requested recently together with CISL and UIL with the national initiative "Let's stop the massacre in the workplace".
