Another day of heavy rain yesterday put a strain on roads, sidewalks, the white water network, parks and cemeteries. A fragile city that has shown all its wounds, while the bad weather alert continues today in Sardinia (in Cagliari it is "only" yellow).

In the capital today we go back to school, and the damage caused by the violent downpours is counted. Dozens of trees felled, many collapsed due to roots thrown out by the rain.

In viale Europa a large pine rested on the roadway, a tragedy touched on in viale Diaz where an already run-down pine fell on the facade of a building. Other trees have fallen on the graves in the Bonaria cemetery.

The city streets have been severely tested. Transegno in via Sant'Ignazio, in viale Buoncammino, in via Italia in Pirri. In via dei Valenzani the asphalt swelled and cracked, in via della Pineta the underground river of water destroyed the road surface creating a moat that was plugged with an iron plate to avoid the closure of a strategic road.

And again: crumbling walls, collapsed cornices, flooded premises and lift shafts. Manholes blown up, blackouts in various peripheral areas.

Centinaia di interventi nel Cagliaritano

QUARTU - The Marina Residence is a lake. The city hall tens of years ago authorized the construction of the houses on the bed of a river, thus creating a barrier and continuous flooding. On Sunday the first, in via Lago di Varese, the following night another tens of centimeters of water on the street and in several houses of the subdivision along the provincial road to Villasimius.

The bricks of an old building in via Marconi collapsed on a parked car, while on Monday evening another building collapsed in via Dante.

Here too, fallen trees, closed roads and manholes that continue to overflow.

MONSERRATO - Five failures have affected the old houses in Ladiri in Monserrato, where heavy rainfall has only aggravated old existing problems.

Via Deroma, via dei Fabi, via Scipione, as well as via Cornelio Nepote and between via Nerva and Adriano. These are the roads affected by the subsidence, some of these (Deroma and Nerva) have been closed to traffic for safety reasons.

ALERT CONTINUES - There have been hundreds of interventions by the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection in a situation that has also worsened in Northern Sardinia and Nuorese.

And even today Sardinia remains with bated breath for an orange alert: according to forecasts there will still be widespread rainfall and a "strong intensity" downpour or storm on the island, accompanied by lightning strikes and strong gusts of wind.
