We met him with the raids on Italian streets, with traffic blocked by his activists and monuments defaced. Now Ultima Generazione , the movement that fights to obtain measures to combat climate change, also lands in Sardinia .
The nucleus of the island, which already has about ten members, was born two months ago. One of them, Manuela Artizzu , a law student, spoke about it when she was interviewed during the Radiolina broadcast "Caffècorretto". The young woman also opened up to possible demonstrations on the streets of Sardinia, along the lines of what her colleagues on the peninsula have already done: «Should we expect a blockade of the 131 or the median axis? Who knows."
Artizzu also explained who the members of Ultima Generazione are: «Ordinary people and citizens, like me. People who want things to change, materially. They are protesting to make the Government do what it should already do regarding climate change. Why is it called the Last Generation? Because we are the last generation to be able to do something." Then he added: « It's an emergency, otherwise we won't stop you when you go to work . We are not there to raise awareness. The time when we needed to raise awareness is over. Other movements deal with this, with low-risk actions. Unfortunately they are not effective enough."
During the interview, the Last Generation exponent cited historical cases that required such extreme gestures: «Let's think of the suffragists. You couldn't see women voting and having a political conscience. To claim the right to vote, these women set mailboxes on fire and chained themselves to the railings. We didn't like them, but now we have the right to vote ."
